Injectables Are Changing – Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’ve been considering injectables, you might have heard that changes are coming to how these treatments are delivered in the UK. And they’re not just whispers — as of 2024, new legislation is officially in place. So what does this mean for you?
At Illumine Aesthetics, we’re here to keep things transparent and simple. Below, we’ll walk you through exactly what’s changing, why it’s happening, and how it impacts your treatments with us.
Why Have the Laws Changed?
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which oversees professional standards for nurses and midwives, has introduced these regulations to improve safety and protect clients. For too long, clients were exposed to poorly administered treatments and underqualified providers. This new framework raises the bar for care across the industry.
What’s the New Requirement?
It is now a legal requirement that all Prescription-Only Medications (POM) are prescribed following a face-to-face consultation with a qualified prescriber. Online prescriptions or remote approvals are no longer permitted.
At Illumine, we fully support this change. We work closely with our in-house prescriber to ensure every client receives a treatment plan that is safe, personalised, and medically sound. Your care doesn’t start with your appointment — it begins with a collaborative conversation about what’s right for you.
What Treatments Are Affected?
These regulations apply to all treatments involving prescription-only medications. At Illumine, this includes:
Botulinum Toxin (Anti-Wrinkle Injections)
Used to soften lines on the forehead, crow’s feet, frown lines, and areas like the lip flip, jawline, and gummy smile.
➡️ Results typically last 3–4 months
➡️ Muscle groups like the masseters can last up to 6 months
➡️ Male clients require higher doses due to stronger muscle mass, so there is a £50 supplement for male treatments.
Vitamin Injections
Delivering high doses of essential nutrients directly into your system for fast, effective results.
We offer:
-
Vitamin B12 – every 12 weeks. A 2ml loading dose may be recommended at the start.
-
Vitamin D – every 8 weeks
-
Vitamin C – every 12 weeks for skin health and immunity
-
Biotin – weekly for 6 weeks then spaced further apart
Fees, Booking & Prescriptions
-
A £25 prescriber fee is required to secure your consultation. This goes directly to the prescriber.
-
Your prescription, once issued, is valid for 6 months.
-
Full treatment payment must be made via our website when booking.
-
All other clinic policies still apply and can be found on our website policy page.
Aftercare That’s Personal to You
Your aftercare matters. Once prescribed, your prescriber and practitioner will work together to tailor your aftercare plan to your skin, health, and goals. This ensures consistency in your treatment journey and continued support after your appointment.
Why This Is a Positive Shift
This isn’t about making aesthetics harder — it’s about making them better. Safer. Smarter. More transparent. These changes mean you’re always treated by trained professionals, with your wellbeing at the heart of it all.
From first consultation to aftercare, your journey at Illumine is designed to feel secure, supportive, and completely bespoke.
